Introduction to Madhabkunda Waterfall

Madhabkunda Waterfall is located in Baralekha Upazila of Moulvibazar District. A few years ago, Madhavakund was the only attraction for the waterfall-loving tourists in Bangladesh. At present several more springs have been discovered in Bangladesh. However, the appeal of Madhavakund Jharna to the tourists has not diminished a bit. Resthouses and restaurants of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation have been built here under government initiative and Madhavkund Ecopark has been established in 2001 with an area of ​​267 acres. After walking about half a kilometer from the main gate of Madhavkund Ecopark, you will see Madhavkund Jharna. This beautiful waterfall is about 162 feet high.
There is another spring called Parikunda near the Madhavakunda falls. The fountain can be reached by walking for 10-15 minutes along the stream. Madhavakund Ecopark is quite enjoyable to visit. There is an opportunity to spend the whole day here. The Ecopark also has Sri Sri Madhveshwar's shrine, tea plantation, Khasia Palli, orange, lemon, betel nut and betel nut plantations. Somewhere you will also see jum cultivation. On Madhukrishna Troyodashi Tithi in the month of Chaitra, Baruni Snan of Hindus is held in the pool adjacent to the Madhavakunda Falls and fairs are organized here as well. Entrance ticket to Madhavakunda Ecopark is Tk 10 per person.

Although winter is a good time to travel, the water in the spring is less in winter. If you think in that direction then if you visit Madhavkund Jharna during or around Monsoon then there will be a lot of water in the Jharna.

How to get to Madhavkund Ecopark

You can go to Madhavkund Jharna in many ways. Depending on where you stay, there are a few ways to get to Madhavakunda:

Dhaka to Madhavkund

The easiest way to go by bus from Dhaka is to take Shyamoli Paribahan towards Biyanibazar or Ena Paribahan and directly get off at Kathalatli Bazar. From there you can rent reserve CNG (150-180) or local CNG (20-25 per person) from Madhavkund.
If you want to go by train from Dhaka, various intercity trains go to Sylhet via Moulvibazar. You have to get down at Kulaura station of Moulvibazar by Parabat, Upban and Jayantika Express train (fare 280-639 taka depending on the class, time will take 6-7 hours). From Kulaura station you have to go to Madhavkund via Kathaltali Bazar. In this case you can go to Madhavkund with reserve CNG (400-600) or you can go from Kulaura to Kathaltali Bazar by local CNG and from there you can rent reserve CNG (150-180) or local CNG (20-25 per person) from Madhavkund.

Moulvibazar to Madhavkund Ecopark

If you want to go from Moulvibazar city to Madhavkund then there are two ways to go. Either you have to reserve CNG/Jeep/Microbus. Or take a local bus bound for Baralekha, cross Kulaura and get down to Kanthaltali market before Baralekha. From there reserve/local CNG can be taken to Madhavkund.

Sylhet to Madhavkund

If you want to go to Madhavkund from Sylhet, you can board the bus that goes to Kulaura from Kadmatoli bus stand via Baralekha or you will come to Baralekha. From Baralekha you can go to Madhavkund by reserve CNG or from Baralekha by local CNG to Kathaltali Bazar and from there you can go to Madhavkund by reserve/local CNG.

Srimangal to Madhavakunda

If you want to go to Madhavakund from Srimangal, you can directly reserve CNG/Jeep. Or take a local bus going to Baralekha and get down at Kanthaltali Bazar before Baralekha. From there reserve/local CNG to Madhavkund Ecopark.

Zilla Parishad has 2 bungalows and 2 residential hotels for accommodation in Madhavakund. You can stay there by advance booking. But it is best if you spend the night in Sylhet, Moulvibazar or Srimangal as it will make your journey to any place easier the next day. And there are many accommodation options in those places. You can stay at the hotel or cottage of your choice.

where to eat

There are medium quality restaurants in Madhavakunda but food prices there are a bit high. Therefore, if necessary, you can buy your own food from outside or you can try about 30 types of bharta at Pansi, Panch Bhai or Palki restaurants in Zindabazar area. Moulvibazar or Srimangal town also has many quality food hotels. You can eat from any hotel you like.
