Kherua Mosque Bogra

Kherua Mosque, one of the archaeological monuments of Bangladesh, is located in Khandkar Tola area of ​​Sherpur Upazila of Bogra District. Mirza Murad Khan Kakshal, son of Jawahar Ali Kakshal, built the Kherua Mosque in 1582. However, no exact history is known about the naming of the mosque.

The Kherua Mosque, built in a mix of Sultanate and Mughal architecture, is about 430 years old and has survived due to its wide walls and minaret foundations. Built on 1.81 m wide red brick walls made of lime-surki, the roof has three semi-circular domes. Externally, the length of the mosque is 17.27 meters and the width is 7.42 meters. The mosque has three arched doors on the eastern wall and one each on the north-south wall. And the western wall has three elaborate arches.

The arched panels lining the bow-like cornice of the Kherua Mosque have exquisite ornamentation. Aesthetic diversity is created through brick layouts and vertical panels. The minarets, domes and varied brickwork and flower-creeper-leaf designs give the whole mosque a unique character. There is a rectangular field in front of the Kherua Mosque and the mosque is surrounded by rows of palm, coconut, mango and kadam trees. The total land area of ​​Kherua Mosque is about 59 percent.

The traditional mosque still offers regular prayers and the Kherua Mosque is currently under the purview of the Department of Archaeology.

Kherua Masjid is about 25 km from Bogra district town and only 1 km from Sherpur upazila headquarters. You can go by rickshaw, van or CNG from Sherpur Sadar Upazila Sadar.

AC and non-AC bus fares to Bogura are from Tk 550 to Tk 1300.

Dhaka to Bogra by train : From Dhaka Kamalapur railway station you can come to Bogra by Burimari Express, Rangpur Express and Lalmony Express trains. The train fare will cost from Tk 475 to Tk 1093 depending on the class.
