Karamjal Sundarban

Karamjal ( Karamjal ) tourist center is located on the banks of Pasur river in Sundarbans. The tourism center has been built on 30 hectares of land about eight kilometers from the Mongla sea port under the supervision of the forest department. If you want to taste Sundarbans travel in one day, Karamjal is the best place. There are various species of animals including crocodiles, deer, rhesus monkeys to enhance the beauty of nature. Also constructed are wooden trails, towers and fishermen's fishing activities are additional benefits. Karamjal is the only natural breeding center for crocodiles in Bangladesh.

It takes one to one and a half hours to reach Karamjal tourist center by engine boat from Mongla. First of all tourist center has map of Sundarbans, which gives map basic idea about Sundarbans. The rich biodiversity of the Sundarbans can be gauged if one proceeds along the curved wooden monkey trail ahead. Further along this path, you can see the animal river, if you want, you can sit and rest on the bench built there. There is a shed at the trailhead about half a kilometer south of there. From this point you will see another wooden trail to the west. This route will take you to the crocodile and deer breeding center and the observation tower. Seeing the beauty of the surroundings from this tower will surely fill your mind with serenity.

Entry fee to Karamjal tourist center for Bangladeshi and foreign tourists is Tk 20 and Tk 300 respectively. Bangladeshi students and researchers can enter for Tk 20 and Tk 40. However, foreign researchers have to pay 500 rupees to enter Karamjal. Anyone under the age of twelve will have to pay a ticket of 10 rupees to enter Karmajal. To enter with a video camera, you have to pay extra money for each camera. This charge is 200 taka for Bangladeshis and 300 taka for foreigners. Please note that 15% VAT is applicable on all prices.

Bagerhat can be easily reached by buses such as Dola Paribahan, Welcome Express, Falguni Paribahan, Sakura Paribahan, Hanif Enterprise, Sohag Paribahan and Eagle Paribahan from Dhaka's Gabtali or Syedabad bus terminal. After that you can hire a boat to go to Karamjal from Mongla port in Bagerhat. Apart from this, Karamjal tourist center can also be reached from Morelganj, Sharankhola and Rupsa in Khulna.

But the best is to take a direct bus to Mongla from Syedabad bus stand. In this case, you can go to Sundarbans and tourist service bus for 650 to 700 taka per person. 1000 to 1500 Tk.

If you want to spend the night in Sundarbans, you can spend the night in a tourist vessel. Apart from this, you can stay overnight at Nilakmal at Hiran Point, Kachikhali at Tiger Point and Katkay Forest Department rest houses. 3000 rupees per room in Neelkamal and Kachikhali. However, if you rent 4 rooms in Kachikhali, you can stay for 10,000 rupees. It takes 2000 taka to take a room at Katka rest house. Foreign travelers have to pay Tk 5000 per room to spend the night in these rest houses.

And if you come back from Karamjal tourist center during the day, you can stay at the motel of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation in Mongla for 600 to 2000 taka. You can contact 04662-75100 to book a room. Also, you can stay overnight in Mongla city for 200 to 800 taka in standard hotels. Or come to Khulna and you will find different quality residential hotels to stay there.

Do not enter the forest without a forest guard. Do not feed any animals in crocodile and deer breeding centers. Animal rivers are almost always more or less turbulent so travel with a boat with a good engine. Make sure your boat has enough life jackets and buoys.
