Ekdala Fort Gazipur

Around 600 AD, a Hindu king built Ekdala Fort, 5 km long and 2 km wide, about 10 km away from Kapasia upazila of Gazipur on the west side of Shitalakshya and Brahmaputra river. In 1352 AD, Ilyas Shah renovated the fort to ward off possible attacks by Sultan Firoz Tughlaq of Delhi. Delhi Sultan Firoz Tughluq attacked Ekdala Fort twice in 1353 and 1357 AD but could not capture the fort.

Then Alauddin Hussain Shah's son Nasir Uddin Shah renovated the fort again between 1518 AD and 1532 AD. The Ekdala fort was gradually abandoned when King Todarmal included the area in Bhawal Pargana during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Dwar-e Darya (Dardaria) fort on the banks of Kali Banar river in Rayed Union was used as a branch fort of Ekdala Fort.

Now the fort is destroyed, which does not exist!

There are numerous bus services to Gazipur intersection from different parts of Dhaka city. And various buses are available from Gazipur intersection to Kapasia upazila. You can go to Ekdala Fort located on the bank of Shitalaksha river next to Taraganj market by local transport like CNG, rickshaw or easy bike from Kapasia upazila headquarters.

There are several attractive resorts near Kapasia. Sarah Resort, Nakshatrabari Resort, Jaleshwari Resort, Rangbasanti Resort, Saheb Bari Resort, Rajendra Eco Resort, Bhawal Resort are among them. If you want, you can leave Dhaka in the morning and see the Ekdala Fort and return easily in the evening.

Kapasia has fine dining hotels and restaurants like Friends & Family, Hotel Dream Cafe, Burger Plus, Niru Hotel, Hotel Neela etc.

Other sightseeing places in Gazipur include Bhawal Rajbari, Bhawal National Park, Nuhash Palli, The Base Camp Bangladesh and Bangabandhu Safari Park etc.
