Introduction to Durga Sagar

Durga Sagar Dighi ( Durga Sagar ) is located at Madhavpasha on Swarupkathi – Barisal road, just 12 km from Barisal city . In 1780 AD, the then King Shiva Narayan dug a large lake in Madhavpasha to solve the water shortage of the local people and named the lake Durga Sagar after his mother Durga Devi. The wetland area of ​​this historical lake is 27 acres and the total area including banks and land is 45.42 acres. At present, the district administration is performing the responsibility of maintaining the Durgasagar Dighi. There are 3 Ghatlas on three sides of the Durgasagar Dighi and a Tila or small island in the middle of the Dighi. This Durga Sagar is also widely known as Madhobpasha Dighi to the locals.
There is a large embanked ghat on the northern side of the Dighi surrounded by coconut, betel nut, shishu, mahogany trees. You can visit Durgasagar Dighi at any time of the year, but during the winter, the Durgasagar is visited by flocks of guest birds. Thousands of birds of about 6 species, including cranes and sandpipers, are swarming around. A large number of people come to see the beauty of the traditional Durgasagar Dighi, which is about two and a half years old.

How to get to Durgasagar Dighi

To see Durgasagar Dighi first you need to come to Barisal city. If you take a bus going from Barisal to Chakhar, you can get down right in front of Durgasagar Lake. Apart from this, the battery operated Laguna Durga Sagar leaves for Dighi from the launch ghat. If you want, you can reserve a CNG or an autorickshaw from Durgasagar.
Dhaka to Barisal by launch
Among the launches operating on the Dhaka Barisal route are; MV Manami, Kuakata 2, Kirtankhola 2 & 10, Adventure 1, Adventure 9, Sundarban 9, Sundarban 10, Surbhi 7, Surbhi 8, Parabat 9, Parabat 11, Green Line and some other launches ply Dhaka-Barisal route. Most of the launches from Dhaka's Sadarghat leave for Barisal between 8pm and 9pm. And if you want to go in the morning, you can go to the Greenline launch. The launches that leave at night reach Barisal around 5 am. The deck rent of these launches is Tk 200-250, single cabin rent is Tk 1200-1400, double cabin rent is Tk 2200-2500 and VIP cabin rent is Tk 4500-8000.
Dhaka to Barisal by bus
It takes about 6 to 8 hours to go from Dhaka to Barisal by road. From Gabtali Bus Terminal in Dhaka, buses regularly travel to Barisal from 6 am to 10 pm. Buses usually go to Barisal through Paturia Ghat, but some buses go to Barisal via Mawa Ghat. Buses coming from Dhaka stop at Natullabad bus stand in Barisal city.
Hanif Paribahan, Eagle Paribahan, Shakura Paribahan are among the buses operating on Dhaka to Barisal route. AC and non-AC bus fare to Barisal is Tk 500 to 1200. Several local buses ply on this route so it is best to avoid these buses to save time.
