Bangladesh Academy For Rural Development Bard Comilla

Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) is an autonomous research and training academy located in Kotbari, 10 km west of Comilla district town. On May 27, 1959, Pakistan Village Development Academy was started by the then government with the aim of rural development. Later, the rural researcher Dr. Akhtar named Hamid Khan Bard. Bangladesh Rural Development Academy is situated in a natural environment of about 156 acres of shade. There are different types of trees and flower gardens around the academy. Apart from this, Bard's huge complex includes five hostels, four conference rooms, mosque, library, health clinic, sports complex, two cafeterias and a primary school. This autonomous institute currently conducts training programs for various government and private officials as well as organizes various international conferences. And subject to special permission, there are all the facilities for organizing a picnic here.

Since its inception, BARD has been making significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the country along with rural development through various researches, experiments and rural training. In 1960, Bard gained international recognition for introducing the Comilla model for rural development to developing countries.

There are two ways to reach Comilla from Dhaka by train and bus. From Kamalapur railway station in Dhaka, you can come to Comilla by trains such as Mahanagar Godhuli, Coastal Express, Paharika Express and Turna etc. And by road you can reach Comilla by AC/Non-AC buses of Royal Coach, Asia Aircon, BRTC, Prince, Asia Line, Trisha Transport from Syedabad or Kamalapur bus stand in Dhaka. Bird's location is walking distance from Kotbari bus stand in Comilla.

There are various quality residential hotels such as Hotel Victoria, Amania Rest House, Hotel Dream Land, Masum Rest House, Hotel Melody, Hotel Noor, Hotel Sonali etc. in Kandirpar, Shamangacha and Station Road in Comilla.

There are two cafeterias inside the bard. Apart from this, there are good restaurants in Comilla city including Irish Hill Highway Hotel, Saudia Hotel, Jhal Bangla Restaurant, Hotel Mainamati, Uzan Highway, Anwar Hotel, Saqib Hotel and Liza Hotel. And if you have a chance, you must try to taste the famous rasmalai and rasgolla of Manoharpur, Comilla's mother store, Bhagwati's Peda and Mithai's Malai Chop and Matribhoomi's Malaikari.
