Birsresto Ruhul Amin Grave Yard, honored with the highest military title, is lying in eternal sleep on the east side of Rupsa river in Khulna district. On December 10, 1971, this valiant freedom fighter was martyred in an enemy air attack on a warship near Khulna Shipyard. Every year on Ruhul Amin's martyrdom anniversary and Armed Forces Day, Bangladesh Navy and local administration pay tribute to Ruhul Amin's grave by organizing various programs.
Mohammad Rahul Amin was born in Baghpanchra village of Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali in 1935. In 1971, he served as the Artificial Officer of Palash Gun Board given to the Navy by the Government of India during the Liberation War. On December 10, three gunboats Palash, Padma and Pavel departed from Haldia Naval Base for Mongla port to seize Pakistani naval PNS Titumi. But when the gunboat Palash reached too close to the Khulna Shipyard, bombs and bullets started raining from militant planes. Palash's commander ordered everyone to leave the gunboat, but Ruhul Amin tried his best to keep the gunboat running. Suddenly a shell hit the engine room of Palash and destroyed it. When Virshrestha Rahul Amin reached the river bank injured, he was brutally killed by the Pakistani army and Razakars stationed on the bank. According to family sources, Ruhul Amin's body was lying on the bank of Rupsa river for three days. Abdur Ghaffar of Rupsa police station buried Ruhul Amin at Bagmara village in East Rupsa Char with the help of villagers. Mohammad Rahul Amin was awarded the highest military title of Bir Shrestha after the independence of Bangladesh in recognition of extreme bravery, outstanding heroism and supreme self-sacrifice in the Great War of Liberation.
After 24 years, in 1994, Rupsa Reporters Club and Bangladesh Navy took responsibility for the preservation and maintenance of the tombs of Bir Shrestha Ruhul Amin and Bir Uttam Shaheed Mohibullah. At present, the Samadhi complex of Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin and Bir Vikram Mohibullah has been constructed with an area of one and a half acres.
