Nilsagar is a historical lake located in Gorgram union of Nilphamari district. The distance of Nilsagar from Nilphamari district headquarters is about 14 km. It is believed that the Vedic king 'Birat' dug this historic lake in the 8th century. The Dighi once came to be known as Virat Dighi after the name of Virat Raja Later many people started calling it as Binna Dighi and in 1979 this Dighi was renamed Nilsagar. The total land area of Nilsagar is 53.90 acres. Out of this, the total area of Jal Bhag is 32.70 acres and the amount of land on the bank of Dighi is 21 acres. At present various types of renovation works have been done to make the surroundings of Nile Sea more suitable for the entertainment of tourists. A rest house, entrance gate and mosque have also been constructed. And to keep the future beauty of the bank of Dighi intact, several types of trees have been planted on the bank.
On the banks of the Nile Sea Dighi there are rows of various unknown flowers and fruit trees including bonbabul, coconut, mahogany, shishu and akasmani. And in this Nile Sea, famous for its natural beauty, numerous guest birds are seen in winter. The Nile was declared a bird sanctuary in 1998. Besides, every year on Chaitrasankranti people of Hindu community organize Varuni Snan Utsav in Nile Sea. There is a temple on the east bank of the Nile and a dervish's abode on the west bank. Almost every day, the Deh Tattva song gathering gathers in the Dervish's Astana. Besides, a village fair is organized here during the full moon of Chaitra month.
