Moyna Deep Mymensingh

The delta rising in the Brahmaputra river near Bangladesh Agricultural University, just 6 km away from Mymensingh city, is known as Moyna Deep or Moyna Deep. With clear water sports on one side and large commercially cultivated lemon groves on the other side, Myna Dwip is a beautiful oasis of beauty. It is known that Maina Mia, an activist of the anti-British movement, lived here. He used to spend his leisure time playing the flute while sitting under the tree. Many people came to meet Mayna Mia after listening to the melodious sound of the flute. Maina Mia used to teach them various tricks to repel the British. In this way, the name of this char became Myna Char or Myna Dwip. And according to many, this pasture was once inhabited by a lot of Myna birds, so it was named so.

Maina Dwip, a natural environment surrounded by greenery and noise-free, has river-centered people's life, row boats, flocks of thousands of wild ducks and abundance of various birds of prey like pankauri or chil. On the way back again, the beautiful view of the sunset enthralls the visitors. So travelers flock to Myna Island to spend some quiet time away from the city. Nowadays this place is also gaining popularity as a picnic spot.

You can go to Mymensingh by bus or train from Dhaka. Most of the buses ply from Mohakhali to Mymensingh route. Besides, one can go to Mymensingh by Teesta, Yamuna or Agniveena Express train from Kamalapur railway station.

After reaching Mymensingh, ride a rickshaw, auto rickshaw or CNG and come to the last junction of Bangladesh Agricultural University. Ask a local at the last turn and you will find out about Myna Island.

Besides, if you are an adventure lover, you can go to Maina Dwip by taking an engine-driven boat from Mymensingh Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Park, Kachari Ghat or Thanar Ghat. If a few people rent a boat for the whole day, they can go to Maina Island for one and a half to two thousand taka.

Mymensingh city has several residential hotels of different quality like Hotel Amir International, Silver Castle, Hotel Hera, Hotel La Marianne, Ishan Kha and Hotel Asad.

There are no food shops around Maina Island. If you plan to visit Myna Island for a whole day, then you should take food with you. Jabbar Junction has some decent food hotels. Hotel Dhansindi, Hotel Sarinda, Hotel Rome Three, Seven Eleven and Press Canteen located in Mymensingh city have good reputation for food. Also, if you get a chance, don't miss the opportunity to have Muktagachhar Manda, Malaikari, Agricultural University Yoghurt and Mukul Bhai's tea.

Maina Island is a secluded place so it is better to go in a group rather than alone or as a couple for safety.

Other places to visit in Mymensingh include Bangladesh Agricultural University, Santoshpur Rubber Garden, Shashi Lodge, Muktagacha Zamindar Bari and Shilpacharya Zainal Abedin Park.
