The Liberation War Museum located in Agargaon, Dhaka is a rare collection of various important objects of the Great Liberation War of 1971. On March 22, 1996, the first Liberation War Museum was inaugurated in a rented house in Segun Bagicha, Dhaka as a private initiative. With the support and assistance of numerous people since its inception, the Liberation War Museum currently has more than fifteen thousand collections. On April 16, 2017, the Liberation War Museum was officially shifted to the new building constructed in Agargaon.
The galleries of the new building of the Liberation War Museum built in a modern architectural style on about two and a half bigha land are decorated in the values and history of the Liberation War. In four galleries with an area of about 21,000 square feet, various memorials of the Liberation War include remains, materials used by freedom fighters and martyrs, photographs, weapons, documents, letters. Besides, the bronze mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders has been placed in the Liberation War Museum.
The gallery named 'Our Heritage, Our Struggle' has collected ancient maps of Bengal, terracotta art, terracotta, various historical monuments, the context of the British period and the state of Pakistan and various memorabilia of the 1970s general elections.
In the gallery named 'Our Rights, Our Sacrifice', there are huge photographs of Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech, video footage of the speech, Awami League's press release, and various evidences of the barbaric attack by the Pakistani invasion forces on the night of March 25.
In the gallery named 'Our war, our friend', the life of refugees who took shelter in India during the war, news prints published in foreign media, training of freedom fighters, activities of razakars, guerilla shelters of freedom fighters and various artifacts from home and abroad supporting the liberation war.
And lastly, in the gallery named 'Our Joy, Our Values', various signs have been displayed before the final victory in the Liberation War. The nine-storey building of Liberation War Museum also has car parking, archive, laboratory, exhibition room, office and auditorium.
