Martyr Janani Jahanara Imam was an educator, writer, poet and the leader of the anti-murderer movement in the 1970s. His remarkable book “Days of Ekattar” on the memories of Ekattar is appreciated by readers all over the country. Martyr Janani Jahanar Imam Memorial Museum has been built at Elephant Road to preserve the memory of Jahanara Imam and her son Shahid Rumi. Saif Imam Jami, younger son of Jahanara Imam, built the museum in 2007 with a complete personal initiative to inform the young generation about the various struggles and sacrifices of the noble woman Jahanara Imam.
The Jahanara Imam Museum has been built in a small scale with a large hall room and office room. Various memorabilia and useful items of the Imam's family are kept for public display. On one wall of the museum there are different pictures of the changing face of Shaheed Jahanara Imam from her teenage years to the end of her life. The literary collection of Shaheed Janani, possessor of artistic mind, can also be found in this museum.
In addition to visiting the shelves of books written by Jahanara Imam, there is also an opportunity to buy various books published by the museum. One wall of the museum has pictures of three generations of Jahanara Imam including grandfather, father and grandson. The outstanding contribution of Shafi Imam Rumi, the son of Shaheed Janani, who was a member of the crack platoon during the liberation war, has also been highlighted in this museum. In addition to the photographs of Martyr Janani and Rumi, various items and furniture used in their daily life, hobbies, various awards received, documents of the Khatak Dalal Nirmul Committee of 1971, various pictures, posters, various books, various letters written by Jahanara Imam and Rumi, 1971 Sal and his various subsequent documents are displayed here. Also, various quotes of Shaheed Rumi about his own mother and memoirs written by his friends dedicated to Rumi have also been placed in this museum.
